It was Sunday evening when I received the sms from Filip (Novoselnik): "We've got it!". I almost fell out of my chair. Within a couple of minutes everyone of us was online searching form someone to confirm the finding. The clouds weren't favourble to us, so Rainer contacted Catalina to check the finding in their own archive -answer A. Drake's still wandering in our minds: "Yes, we captured it too, but our software failed to detect it. Congratulations on the discovery!" A few days later we were watching the IAU list of supernovae, which now had our own: SN 2010AX.
I can barely find the words to describe the feeling of watching the list; alongside projects like Catalina's Sky Survey, PanSTARRSa, LOSS i CHASE there were now our names (which btw are 2 highschool students, 1 graduate studente and a few others from astronomy club "Anonymus", along with myself and the Observatory La Sagra in Spain.

 Do otkrića je došlo neočekivano brzo, prebrzo čak. Otkad smo se upustili u zajednički projekt s opservatorijem La Sagra prije nekoliko mjeseci, nismo znali što nas očekuje. Dok se većina ljudi oporavljala od božićne gozbe mi smo marljivo "tamanili" ćevape i Domaćicu u našem astro stožeru u Domu tehnike Valpovo te pisali software za otkrivanje supernovih. Do Nove godine već smo imali gotovu prvu verziju, ali problemi sa serverima, brzinama veze i katalozima su rezultirali sabezbroj verzija i preinaka programa što se povoljno odrazilo na prodaju ćevapa u lokalnom restoranu. Zafrkavali smo se da će supernove padati k'o kruške kad obrada konačno krene, statistike su govorile da bi uistinu tako moglo biti, potajno smo se nadali i govorili kako bi bili zadovoljni da otkrijemo jednu do ljeta. Nije prošlo niti tjedan dana od početka obrade i već smo prekopali više od 9000 galaksija, iz čega se izrodilo 3 od ranije poznate supernove, 4 poznata asteroida, popriličan broj hotpixela, nekolicina neobičnih objekata (brzih zvijezda, zanimljivih maglica i galaksija u sudaru), a kao šlag na kraju i jedna dotada nepoznata supernova. Bila je vidljiva na sve tri slike koje smo imali od te noći, ali idućih dana se naoblačilo i nismo mogli dobiti potvrdu. Odlučili smo ipak prijaviti otkriće pa kud puklo da puklo. I puklo je, energijom mjerljivom s cijelom galaksijom! R. Stoss se obratio Catalini (Catalina Sky Survey) da provjere u svojim arhivama da li su je snimili i zaista jesu, ali ljudsko oko je sofisticiranije od softwarea kojemu je supernova promakla. Ubrzo je Dan Green stavio supernovu na službenu listu i mogli smo odahnuti - prava je.
SN 2010AX se nalazi u zviježđu Volara u galaksiji PGC 1383919 (z=0,051) 16. magnitude, 6"N i 6"E od središta i trenutno je između 17.-18. magnitude. Tip je još uvijek nepoznat sve dok se ne snimi spektar.
Nadajmo se da je ovo tek prva u nizu!
